Held during the last week in July, the 2016 CCM High Performance Model Camp was one of the last significant hockey development events of the summer, bringing together the top players in Minnesota from ages 15-18.

Players on six teams players hailed from Shattuck St. Mary’s, the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18 squad, Minnesota high schools and bantam teams.

The players spent a week practicing and playing games under the watchful eye of a star-studded cast of coaches, including former Golden Gopher star Grant Potulny, former Minnesota associate head coach Mike Guentzel and Ohio State associate head coach Mark Strobel.

Potulny, also an assistant coach for the Golden Gophers, is the Model Camp director.

Among highlighted players at this year's Model Camp were Luverne’s Jaxon Nelson and Edina’s Ben Brinkman, who were each invited to tryout for the NTDP Under-17 team this spring. Both Nelson and Brinkman are committed to play for the Golden Gophers.

Colin Schmidt, the leading scorer for the 2016 Class 2A state champion Wayzata Trojans and fellow Golden Gopher commit, also attended the Model Camp.

The Camp concluded with games for fifth place, third place and a title game on Friday. Team Maroon beat Team Gray 5-4. For more details on this year's Model Camp, including game recaps, visit YHH.
