Top Seeds Advance in Girls' Class AA State Quarterfinals

Edina, Hill-Murray, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove Move on to Friday's Semis

Girls' Class AA Quarterfinals Recap

Game 1: Edina 1, Eastview 0

Edina sophomore forward Emily Oden scored at the 7:44 mark of the third period, the lone goal of the game for the No. 2 seed Hornets. Junior goaltender Anna Goldstein made 17 saves to earn the shutout for the Hornets (20-7-1), while senior goaltender Emma Tschida made 34 saves for the Lightning (18-7-4). 

Game 2: Eden Prairie 4, Forest Lake 2

No. 3 seed Eden Prairie (20-7-2) scored twice in the first and third periods, never trailing in Thursday’s quarterfinal win over Forest Lake.

Junior forward Naomi Rogge and sophomore defender Crystalyn Hengler scored for the Eagles in the first period, with the Rangers’ junior forward Madi Nolan scoring unassisted between Eden Prairie’s goals.

Senior forward Kaitlyn VanTassel scored the lone goal of the second period for the Rangers (18-8-3), tying the game 2-2 entering the third, where freshman forward Becca Kniss and senior forward Rachel Werdin notched the game-winning and insurance goals for the Eagles.

Game 3: Hill-Murray 5, Sartell-Sauk Rapids 0

Defending Class 2A state champion and No. 1 seed Hill-Murray scored in all three periods to cruise to victory over Sartell-Sauk Rapids.

Senior forward Laura Anderson, senior forward Jac Kaasa and sophomore forward Abigail Boreen all scored a goal and added an assist for the Pioneers (28-0-1). Hill-Murray’s other goals came from senior forward Kate Smith and freshman forward Haylee Blinkhorn. Senior goaltender Claire Minnerath made 45 saves in the loss for the Sabers (21-8-0). 

Game 4: Maple Grove 4, Lakeville South 1

Senior forward Lauren Kaufman scored three goals and added an assist, and junior forward Taylor Wente scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the third period as the No. 4 seed Crimson downed fifth-seeded Lakeville South 4-1 to advance to the semifinals.

This is the first appearance in the Class 2A State Tournament for the Crimson (21-5-2), which got a sparkling performance from junior goaltender Coco Francis, who racked up 31 saves in the win.

Senior goaltender Chloe Crosby made 32 saves, and junior forward Halle Gill scored the lone goal for the Cougars (20-6-2).
