No. 1 Seed Blake Dominates in Girls' Class A State Quarterfinal Win

Warroad, St. Paul United, Proctor-Hermantown Also Advance to Friday's Semifinals

Girls' Class A Quarterfinals Recap

Game 1: Warroad 3, Northfield 0

Warroad, Class 1A’s No. 2 seed, scored three goals in the second period of a 3-0 win over Northfield to advance to Friday’s semifinals.

Senior forward Demi Gardner scored twice in less than five minutes to put the Warriors (24-3-1) ahead 2-0, while senior forward Sara Baumann added the third goal at the 11:44 mark of the second period.

Junior forward Mariah Gardner had two assists in the win, despite playing with a broken arm.

Sophomore goaltender Mallory Tidona made 33 saves for Northfield (19-10-0). 

Game 2: St. Paul United 2, Alexandria 0

A pair of unassisted goals propelled No. 3 seed St. Paul United past Alexandria and into the semifinals.

Junior forward and Cornell commit Joie Phelps took seven shots and scored in the first period, and sophomore forward Sam Burke added an insurance goal shorthanded on an empty net late in the third for the United (22-5-1).

For the Cardinals (18-8-1), goaltender Amy Jost stopped 30 of 31 shots.

Game 3: Blake 10, Luverne 0

Blake, the tournament’s top seed, proved its worth, scoring four goals in the second period and four more in the third en route to a dominating 10-0 win over Luverne.

Senior forward and Ms. Hockey finalist Carly Bullock scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Bears, which also got two goals from eighth-grade forward Lily Delianedis. Sophomore forward Sarah Chute, eighth-grader Adelaide Burton, freshman defender Madeline Wethington, and freshman forward Madison Tix all added one goal each for Blake (24-2-2).

The Bears pumped a Class 1A State Tournament-record 60 shots on net. Luverne (20-7-0) goaltender Emilie Bartels stopped 50 of them in the losing effort. 

Game 4: Proctor-Hermantown 2, New Prague 1

Like the day’s first game, all of the scoring in the nightcap happened in the second period.

No. 5 seed New Prague (17-10-1) took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period on a goal by sophomore forward Caitie Skaja, which was answered less than a minute later by Proctor-Hermantown’s senior defender Reilly Albert.

Senior forward Sophie McGovern scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 14:54 mark of the second period for the No. 4 seed Mirage (20-7-1).

11 a.m. - Eastview vs. Edina

1 p.m. - Forest Lake vs. Eden Prairie

6 p.m. - Sartell/Sauk Rapids vs. Hill-Murray

8 p.m. - Lakeville South vs. Maple Grove
