Award Criteria
The State of Hockey produces more hockey players than any other state. Each of these players have many coaches to thank. The Minnesota Wild recognizes that the State of Hockey is made up of great coaches and leaders that guide them both on and off the ice.

To honor these coaches and leaders, the Minnesota Wild has partnered with 3M to award the 3M Excellence in Coaching Award.

Candidates for the award must embody the following qualities:

  • Display good sportsmanship towards team, parents, fans and officials
  • Display positive sports experience and teaching methods through the game of hockey
  • Display respect for players, parents, fans and officials in all situations
  • Teach positive life skills allowing athletes to benefit from team experience
  • Dedicate time both on and off the ice to support community initiatives

Nomination information
Fans are encouraged to nominate a coach who meets the criteria. To be eligible, a nominee must be an active boys or girls hockey coach in the State of Hockey.

In addition, all coaches who have been nominated will be considered for the Charlie Stryker Coach of the Year Award. This award will be presented to two outstanding coaches at the Minnesota Wild home game on March 31st vs. Ottawa.
