COLLEGE HOCKEY ROUNDUP: St. Cloud State Stays Undefeated

D1 Men

St. Cloud State (5-0-0)

The Huskies kept their undefeated season rolling with a 5-2, 3-1 sweep of Boston College last weekend. Jack Poehling, Ryan Poehling and Mikey Eyssimont scored in Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Eagles. David Hrenak made 36 saves to complete the series sweep. On Saturday, St. Cloud State outshot B.C. 47-20 (thanks, in part, to nine power plays). Jack Ahcan scored the game-winning goal at 7:18 of the third period.

Minnesota (3-3-0)

The Golden Gophers split with host North Dakota, losing 2-1 on Friday before getting blanked 4-0 on Saturday. Eric Schierhorn made 34 saves in Friday's win. Rem Pitlick and Steve Johnson scored for Minnesota. 

Minnesota Duluth (2-2-2)

UMD tied Merrimack 5-5 and scored a 7-2 win over the weekend. The Bulldogs, which outshot Merrimack 84-48 in the two games, saw a 4-2 lead slip away on Friday night, as Merrimack scored three times in a two-minute span in the third period. Riley Tufte tallied a goal and two assists, while Dylan Samberg notched three assists. Avery Peterson scored twice in the 7-2 win on Saturday. 

Minnesota State (3-2-0)

The Mavericks earned a split with Bowling Green, winning 4-1 on Friday and losing 5-2 on Saturday. MSU outshot Bowling Green 34-17 and scored three power play goals in Friday's win. C.J. Suess registered a goal and an assist, while Zeb Knutson scored the game-winner at 18:15 of the second period. Connor LaCouvee made 16 saves in the win. Knutson scored again in Saturday's 5-2 loss.

Bemidji State (2-1-1)

Bemidji State split with Air Force, winning 4-1 on Friday before dropping a 5-1 decision in Saturday's series finale. Kyle Bauman scored a pair of goals - 1 PPG and 1 SHG - and Michael Bitzer made 18 saves in Friday's win. The Beavers netted three goals in the third period to cruise past the Falcons.

D1 Women

Minnesota (5-2-1)

The Golden Gophers swept Minnesota Duluth 4-1 and 2-1 at AMSOIL Arena. In Friday's opener, Sidney Peters stopped 35 shots and Caitlin Reilly scored twice to lead the visiting Gophers. The series finale was in doubt until the third period, when goals by Sophie Skarzynski and Reilly put Minnesota ahead to stay.

Minnesota Duluth (2-6-0)

UMD was swept by visiting Minnesota, in an important early-season series. Jessica Henley scored UMD's lone goal on Friday, while Ashton Bell scored for the Bulldogs on Saturday. 

St. Cloud State (1-5-0)

SCSU lost a pair of 4-0 contests to Ohio State over the weekend. Goaltender Janine Alder was busy on Friday, stopping 44 of 48 Buckeye shots. OSU outshot the Huskies 26-9 and scored all four of their goals in the decisive second period.

Bemidji State (1-6-1)

Bemidji State dropped a pair of 5-1 games in Madison to No. 1 Wisconsin. Jacqueline Kaasa opened the scoring on Friday at 16:18 of the first period. Bemidji State's lead didn't last long as Wisconsin scored three times in the second, and twice in the third. On Saturday, the Badgers held BSU to just 12 shots on goal and one goal by Lydia Passolt.

Minnesota State (1-4-1)

Minnesota State was idle last weekend.
