COLLEGE HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Gopher Women Sweep North Dakota, Host No. 1 Badgers Next

D1 Women

Minnesota-Duluth (20-5-5)

The Bulldogs may be ranked No. 2 in the USCHO poll behind Wisconsin, but a weekend trip to Madison yielded a 1-1 tie and a devastating 8-0 loss to the top-ranked Badgers.

Minnesota (23-5-3)

The No. 4 rated Golden Gophers swept North Dakota over the weekend at Ridder Arena, and will host No. 1 Wisconsin on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19 in a marquee border battle.

Bemidji State (10-17-3)

The Beavers managed a split over the weekend with St. Cloud State, falling in game one 5-2 and taking game two 3-1.

St. Cloud State (9-19-4)

The Huskies split in the aforementioned series with Bemidji State, and will face No. 2 ranked Minnesota Duluth this coming weekend in Duluth.

Minnesota State (6-23-4)

A trip to Columbus for a series against Ohio State resulted in a 1-1 tie (which the Mavericks won in a shootout) and a 4-2 loss against the Buckeyes for Minnesota State.

D1 Men

Minnesota-Duluth (18-5-5)

The Bulldogs remain ranked No. 1 in the United States College Hockey online poll, garnering 44 of the possible 50 first-place votes.

After a weekend off, the Bulldogs should be well-rested for next weekend’s series on the road against Colorado College.

Minnesota (18-8-2)

A 5-4 loss and a 6-5 win are the results of the weekend series against Ohio State for the Golden Gophers, who are ranked No. 5 nationally.

St. Cloud State (15-14-1)

The No. 18 Huskies took game one 3-1 over North Dakota in Grand Forks before falling to the Fighting Hawks 2-1 in the series finale.

Bemidji State (19-12-3)

The Beavers remain on the outside of the top-20 at No. 23, and are coming off a split with Alabama-Huntsville. The Beavers beat the Chargers 3-2 in the first game and lost the second 5-2. With the win, the Beavers earned the 2016-17 WCHA regular-season title and the coveted MacNaughton Cup.

Minnesota State (16-10-4)

The Mavericks picked up just their second win in five games in a weekend split with Alaska-Anchorage. Aaron Nelson made 13 saves to earn the shutout in game two’s 5-0 victory for the Mavericks.

D3 Women

Gustavus Adolphus (15-5-3)

The Gusties have not lost a game for over two months, going 9-0-2 in that span. The weekend series against Bethel yielded two more wins, with victories of 4-2 and 3-0.

Augsburg (16-7-0)

A three-game winning streak was snapped in a 4-2 loss to St. Thomas on Saturday, with the Auggies taking the first game of the series 3-0.

Concordia (13-7-3)

The Cobbers completed the trip to Northfield with a 5-2 win and a 1-1 tie against host St. Olaf. Bethel will be the final opponent for the Cobbers to end the regular season.

Hamline (12-10-1)

The Pipers have gone 1-3 in their last four games, with that lone victory coming over the weekend against St. Catherine by a 3-2 score in game one of the series. The Pipers dropped the second game against St. Catherine 2-1 in overtime.

St. Thomas (9-10-3)

Back-to-back losses were halted in a 4-2 win over MIAC-leading Augsburg on Feb. 11. The Tommies will face Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Feb. and end the regular season with a series against St. Olaf.

D3 Men

Augsburg (14-3-6)

The Auggies battled to a win and a tie with St. Thomas over the weekend, downing the Tommies 5-3 in game one and tying game two 6-6.

St. Thomas (11-7-5)

A 5-3 loss to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leader Augsburg was followed by a 6-6 tie with the Auggies. Up next for the Tommies is the regular season finale with St. Olaf.

St. Mary’s (13-9-3)

The Cardinals finished their regular season with a 3-2 win over St. John’s in overtime and a 5-4 loss to the Johnnies in the second game of the series. Kelvin Walz scored the game-winner in game one for the Cardinals.

Hamline (10-8-5)

The Pipers had the weekend off, and will polish off the regular season docket with a series against Gustavus Adolphus.

St. John’s (11-9-3)

A heart-breaking loss to St. Mary’s 3-2 in overtime spurred the Johnnies to a 5-4 win over the Cardinals in the second game of the weekend series.
