When East Ridge senior forward Anya Hafiz finally scored the game-winning goal in the sixth overtime of her team's 3-2 playoff win over Apple Valley last night in Woodbury, it marked the end of the longest girls' high school hockey game in Minnesota history and a mind-boggling performance by the opposing goaltender.
Apple Valley junior Taylor DeForrest made 111 saves - yes, 111 - in the nearly 122-minute affair. It was an incredible performance, despite coming in a losing effort.
The final shots on goal totals for the game were 114-40 in East Ridge's favor, including 26-4 in the scoreless first period.
