St. Cloud Extends Winning Streak to Four Games to Open 2016

D1 Men

1. St. Cloud State (16-4-0)

The Huskies have started the new year on the right foot, sweeping Arizona State over the weekend to run their current winning streak to four games. The Huskies suffered their last loss on Dec. 5 by a 7-2 score to Nebraska-Omaha.

2. Minnesota State (10-6-4)

While they haven't played since Dec. 12, the Mavericks should be well-rested for the their first test of the new year with a pair of games against Northern Michigan on Jan. 8 and 9.

3. Minnesota-Duluth (7-7-3)

The Bulldogs have also not played a regular season game since Dec. 12, but snuck in an exhibition game against the United States National Under-18 Team. The Bulldogs pulled off a 4-3 win in the exhibition thanks to an overtime goal by Dom Toninato.

4. Minnesota (8-9-0)

The Gophers had clawed back to the .500 mark with a 3-2 win over UConn before suffering an overtime loss to Harvard the following night.

5. Bemidji State (6-9-4)

The Beavers seem to enjoy playing away from home, posting a 4-3-2 record while on the road. This past weekend was no exception, as the Beavers edged Alaska-Fairbanks 6-5 in overtime and then salvaged a 1-1 tie with the Nanooks.

D1 Women

1. Minnesota (15-3-0)

The Gophers have been on a break since the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game on Dec. 11, and will play their next regular season game on Jan. 9 against Ohio State.

2. Bemidji State (13-5-2)

The Beavers will be back in action on Wednesday and Thursday with a series against Lindenwood to kick off a four-game home stretch.

3. St. Cloud State (9-8-1)

Hovering just over the .500 mark, the Huskies will skate again in a Jan. 8 and 9 series with Minnesota State.

4. Minnesota-Duluth (8-10-1)

The Bulldogs take a four-game unbeaten streak into the new year, kicking off the month with a series on the road against Wisconsin.

5. Minnesota State (3-15-1)

The Mavericks snapped a 14-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Lindenwood.

D3 Men

1. St. Thomas (7-4-2)

The Tommies remain atop the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and will be back in regular season action in a Jan. 8 and 9 series at home against St. Mary’s.

2. St. Mary’s (6-5-2)

The Cardinals are one of the few teams that has played a game since December, a 6-4 loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

3. Augsburg (7-4-0)

Also a team that has played in the new year, the Auggies notched a 6-3 win over Lawrence behind two goals and an assist by Drew Anderson.

4. Concordia (5-5-1)

The Cobbers remain the lone undefeated team in the MIAC with a 4-0 record, but enter the new year with two losses and a tie in their last three games.

5. St. John’s (4-7-2)

The Johnnies crack the list based on a 7-2 thrashing of St. Scholastica on Dec. 12. Seven players scored in the win for the Johnnies.

D3 Women

1. St. Thomas (9-1-1)

The Tommies will have had over a month off before they take the ice in a series at home against St. Mary’s over Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.

2. Concordia (7-4-0)

A team that loves to play at home, as evidenced by a 5-1 mark at the Moorhead Sports Center, Concordia takes on Wisconsin-River Falls there this coming weekend.

3. Hamline (5-4-2)

The Pipers will face off with St. Catherine’s and Wisconsin-Eau Claire this week in their first games since Dec. 12.

4. Augsburg (5-5-1)

A pair of losses to St. Norbert drops the Auggies back down to the .500 mark. They'll look to turn things around in a series this weekend at home against Stevenson.

5. St. Mary’s (4-5-2)

The Cardinals kicked off the month with a tie and a loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The next series for the Cardinals will be on the road at Lake Forest this weekend.
