College Hockey Roundup: St. Cloud State Men Sweep Minnesota, Now 4th in National Poll

D1 Men

1. St. Cloud State (11-3-0)

The Huskies remain atop the State of Hockey rankings, checking in at No. 4 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online PairWise poll, the highest of any Minnesota school. The Huskies swept Minnesota over the weekend with scores of 3-2 and 7-4.

2. Minnesota State (8-6-2)

The Mavericks have gone unbeaten in their last five games, going 3-0-2 in that stretch. This past weekend saw the Mavericks sweep Alaska-Anchorage, paced by Bryce Gervais’ three goals in the series. Teddy Blueger had a goal and three assists in the second game, a 6-2 win.

3. Minnesota Duluth (5-5-3)

Having not played since Nov. 21, the Bulldogs slip behind the Mavericks. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 25 in the PairWise Rankings.

4. Bemidji State (4-6-3)

The Beavers have now eclipsed the Gophers. A sweep of Alabama-Huntsville with back-to-back 4-1 wins pulls the Beavers closer to the .500 mark. Gerry Fitzgerald leads the team in scoring with eight goals and 12 points.

5. Minnesota (4-7-0)

Swept by St. Cloud State over the weekend, the Gophers are losers of three straight.

D1 Women

1. Minnesota (15-1-0)

A sweep of Minnesota State this past weekend by scores of 11-1 and 2-1 was highlighted by a seven-point performance by Sarah Potomak in game one. Potomak scored two goals and distributed five assists in the win. The Gophers are ranked No. 3 in the USCHO poll.

2. Bemidji State (12-4-2)

Ranked No. 7 in the country, the Beavers did not play over the weekend.

3. St. Cloud State (9-7-0)

The Huskies have won six straight games, thanks to series sweeps over Minnesota State, Ohio State and Lindenwood University. Leading scorer Molly Illikainen had three goals and an assist in the series against Lindenwood.

4. Minnesota-Duluth (6-10-0)

The Bulldogs earned a series split with No. 8 Harvard over the weekend, which could be a promising step forward for the team.

5. Minnesota State (2-15-1)

After a sweep at the hands of Minnesota, the Mavericks have lost 14 straight games.

D3 Men

1. St. Mary’s University (6-2-2)

The Cardinals are undefeated in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 3-0-1, good for the top spot in the league. A weekend sweep of Aurora College was highlighted by Bob Kinne’s three goals and five-point performance in the series.

2. St. Thomas (5-3-2)

The Tommies downed Oswego State, ranked No. 13 in the d3hockey.com poll, 3-2 before falling to Utica 1-0 over the weekend.

3. College of St. Scholastica (4-1-1)

The Saints did not play this weekend.

4. Hamline (4-3-2)

On the road, the Pipers edged Superior 3-1, behind three-point performances by Brandon Zurn and Charlie Adams. Both Zurn and Adams had a goal and two assists in the game.

5. Augsburg (4-4-0)

The Auggies did not play this weekend.

D3 Women

1. St. Thomas (4-1-1)

The Tommies, ranked No. 6 in the nation in the latest USCHO poll, did not play over the weekend.

2. Gustavus Adolphus (3-1-2)

The No. 9 ranked Gusties traveled east over the weekend to play in the Panther/Cardinal Classic. The Gusties lost to No. 2 Elmira 2-1 and No. 1 Plattsburgh State 5-3 in their games.

3. Concordia-Moorhead (5-3-0)

The Cobbers are coming off a split with Marian over the weekend. Jess Nelson notched a hat-trick for the Cobbers in the first game of the series.

4. Hamline (4-2-2)

Winners of four straight, the Pipers have gone 3-0-1 in the MIAC. Goaltender Jessica Cole leads the conference with a goals-against-average of just 0.96.

5. St. Mary’s University (3-3-1)

The Cardinals had a three-game unbeaten streak snapped in the 3-2 overtime loss to St. Norbert over the weekend.
