The State of Hockey was once again well represented at the NHL Draft, with 13 percent of all U.S.-born players selected at the 2015 event hailing from Minnesota.

Burnsville’s Brock Boeser was the first of seven native Minnesotans to have his name called during this year’s draft in Sunrise, Fla., going 23rd overall in the first round to the Vancouver Canucks.

Per Minnesota Hockey, Boeser’s selection marked the highest draft pick used on a Minnesotan since the 2010 NHL Draft, when Derek Forbort (Duluth) and Nick Bjugstad (Blaine) were taken with the 15th and 19th picks, respectively.

Lakeville’s Jack Sadek, fresh off a state championship with Lakeville North, was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the seventh round. “I don’t even know what to say,” Sadek told the Pioneer Press in June. “I’ve dreamed about it my whole life, and now it’s the Wild. It’s awesome.”
