No. 2 Andover 9, Rosemount 0

Andover wasted no time kicking off its Class AA title defense on Thursday morning.

Junior forward Nora Sauer tipped a shot past Rosemount junior goaltender Natatlie Kendhammer 66 seconds into the opening quarterfinal of the AA tournament.

Kendhammer kept her team close through 17 minutes, as she made 18 saves on 20 shots in the opening frame.

The second period, though, turned into the Isa Goettl show as the Andover senior forward collected four points (2 goals, 2 assists) for the Huskies who led 6-0 after two periods.

Goettl flashed her finishing ability as she reeled in a pass from behind the net and picked the top corner for Andover’s third goal. She showed her vision with a saucer pass on a plate for sophomore forward Maya Engler to finish for Andover’s fourth.

The Irish had chances to cut the deficit. In the first period, sophomore forward Sophie Stramel set up a teammate on the power play, but the shot sailed over the net. Then, with the score at 2-0, Rosemount executed a three-on-two that led to a rebound opportunity, but Andover senior goaltender Courney Stagmann got across to make the save.

Stagmann finished with a 12-save shutout for the Huskies—coincidentally her 12th shutout of the season.

Goettl completed her hat trick in the third period in a five-point game. Her linemates, senior forwards Madison Brown and Ella Boerger (2023 Ms. Hockey Finalist), had one goal and three assists each in the win.

No. 3 Edina 6, Lakeville North 0

Edina continued its excellent special teams this postseason in a 6-0 win over Lakeville North Thursday afternoon.

The Hornets killed off an early five-on-three power play and got two goals 54 seconds apart from freshman forward Lorelai Nelson and junior forward Hannah Halverson.

Edina took the game’s first four penalties, but killed all of the advantages to improve to 18 of 19 on the penalty kill this postseason.

The Hornets struck twice on the power play with both goals coming from senior forward Ellie Chapman. Edina is a scorching 8 of 13 on the power play in three postseason games.

Senior goaltender Uma Corniea, a Senior Goalie of the Year finalist, made several big saves early to keep the game scoreless and finished with her 11th shutout of the season making 12 saves.

Lakeville North 8th grade goaltender Kaia Weiland impressed with 18 saves on 23 shots before being lifted in the 3rd Period.

Andover advances to play Edina in a Class AA Semifinal at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Xcel Energy Center.

Rosemount will play Lakeville North in a Class AA Consolation Semifinal at 10 a.m. on Friday at the TRIA Rink in St. Paul.
