Ms. Hockey Awards banquet slated for Feb. 27

Semifinalists to be announced Feb. 11, finalists on Feb. 18


Last year's Ms. Hockey winner was Peyton Hemp of Andover. The Senior Goalie of the Year Award was Brynn DuLac of Minnetonka.

Sauk Centre, MN (Feb. 5, 2022) – The 27th Annual Ms. Hockey winner and Senior Goalie of the Year Award will be announced Sunday, Feb. 27 at the annual Ms. Hockey Banquet. 

A total of 27 girls were nominated by their coaches for the Ms. Hockey Award, which goes to the best senior high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota.

A panel of high school and college coaches will narrow the list to 10 semifinalists, which will be announced Friday, Feb. 11. The five finalists will be named Friday, Feb. 18.

In addition to on-ice talent, criteria for the Ms. Hockey Award include academics, community/extracurricular activities, citizenship and coachability.

Other awards that will be presented at the banquet include the Let’s Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year Award, which goes to the top senior goalie in girls’ high school hockey, as well as the Minnesota Girls High School Hockey Coaches Association’s Coaches of the Year, and All-State and All-Academic Award winners for the 2021-22 season.

The semifinalists for Senior Goalie of the Year Award will be announced Feb. 14 and the five finalists announced Feb. 21.

The keynote speaker of the Ms. Hockey Banquet will be Olympic Gold Medalist Karen Bye-Dietz. Bye-Dietz made her national team debut with Team USA in 1992 and won a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and led the team in scoring with five goals in six games. She also helped Team USA win a silver in the 2002 Winter Olympics. In 2010 she was elected to the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2011.

The event will be emceed by Jessi Pierce. Pierce is an NHL.com correspondent and co-host of the Bardown Beauties Podcast. She has 10-plus years in the sports media industry and a lifetime of love for the game. She’s a Mahtomedi alum turned Iowa State Cyclone, turned USA Hockey intern and eventually Minnesota Wild and NHL correspondent (with plenty of stops along the way). Jessi’s not afraid to lace up the skates but prefers to leave that to the professionals at all levels and share the story instead.
