Announcement will be part of in-person ceremony at the Senior Classic in Coon Rapids

An award ceremony honoring Ms. Hockey and the Senior Goalie of the Year Award will be held Saturday afternoon at the Coon Rapids Ice Center, Let’s Play Hockey announced Tuesday.

The announcement of the winner was initially scheduled for April 6, but it was pushed back in order to hold a short in-person ceremony while meeting Covid-19 guidelines.

“We want to be able to give these girls the recognition they deserve and we feel that by doing it during the Senior Classic, where most of them will be playing, was a good fit,” said Let’s Play Hockey Publisher Bryan Zollman. “We apologize for the delay in the announcement of the winner, but this will give the girls more of an experience similar to our usual announcement we make during a post-season banquet.”

The event is slated for 2:50 p.m. Saturday and is expected to last about 30 to 35 minutes. There are five finalists up for the Ms. Hockey Award: Emma Conner of Edina, Rory Guilday of Minnetonka, Peyton Hemp of Andover, Genevieve Hendrickson of Warroad, and Claire Vekich of Grand Rapids/Greenway.

Senior Goalies of the Year finalists include: Brynn DuLac of Minnetonka, Carly Greene of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Alexandra Pellicci of Prior Lake, Abbie Thompson of Mounds View and Maria Widen of Burnsville.

The Senior Classic is a Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association sponsored event capping off the season for seniors in each section. This is the 23rd year of the event.

“This event coincides perfectly with the announcement of the Ms. Hockey and Senior Goalie of the Year winners,” said Zollman. “We have been working with the MGHCA on finding a good solution to having an in-person event. We are excited to announce the winners on Saturday.”
