The Minnesota Golden Gophers jumped four spots and into the top 10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll released Monday.

The Gophers defeated No. 9 Penn State at Mariucci Arena 4-1 and 3-2. Penn State dropped to No. 14 in the poll. The Gophers jumped from No. 11 to No. 7.

North Dakota maintains the top spot followed by Boston College at No. 2. Neither team has yet to play a game. North Dakota opens up Dec. 2 in Omaha against Miami. All NCHC games will be played in Omaha due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Boston College was set to open against the University of New Hampshire on Friday Nov. 20 but the series was postponed after a member of the UNH program had an inconclusive Covid test.

Michigan, considered to be a contender for the top spot and one of the top teams in the country, jumped to No. 3 in the rankings and is off to a 4-0 start.

UMD and Minnesota State-Mankato each dropped a spot to No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. UMD opens against No. 6 Denver on Dec. 2 in Omaha. MSU-Mankato won their opener 5-0 Sunday night against Bemidji State, but their game for today was postponed due to members of their program testing positive for Covid-19.

The Gophers are back on the ice tonight when they take on No. 10 Ohio State. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
