Mr. Hockey candidate Blake Biondi led No. 3 seeded Hermantown to a dominating 7-1 victory over No. 6 seeded Monticello on Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal of the Class A state playoffs.

Biondi showcased his offensive prowess early and often by slapping in the first two goals of the game and giving Hermantown a 2-0 lead going into the second period. He stayed hot and netted another goal late in the second period to cap off his hat trick. Hermantown also received a goal from Aydyn Dowd to extend their lead to 4-0 going into final period.

Zach Kilen scored a short handed goal early in the third period and then struck in another goal three minutes later to help give his team a 6-0 lead. Monticello’s Roley Ronayne was able to put in a goal to avoid the shutout and Monticello scored the last goal of the period to put the exclamation point on their victory.

Hermantown finished the game with 41 shots on goal while Monticello recorded 19. Hermantown also committed four penalties throughout while Monticello had one.

Hermantown has now set up a date in the semifinals with No. 2 seeded St. Cloud Cathedral for what could potentially be the best matchup in the Class A state playoffs. The game will be played on Friday morning at 11 a.m. at the XCEL Energy center and the winner will advance to the state championship.
