The Upper Midwest High School Elite League departs from its home at the New Hope Ice Arena this coming weekend for a slate of games played in both Fargo (N.D.) and Eau Claire (Wis.), a testament to the league’s expansion and popularity both inside and outside the State of Hockey.

With a few weeks of Elite League action left, Team Southwest paces the field with a record of 5-2-2 for 12 points, closely followed by Team North, Team Southeast and Team Northwest.

Edina forward and Minnesota commit Sam Walker leads Southwest in scoring with seven goals and 17 points, tied for second in the league behind fellow Edina Hornet Demetrios Koumontzis of Team Northeast.

Koumontzis paces the league in both assists with 14 and total points with 21.

Joining Walker amongst the highest scorers in the league-leader’s lineup include Jeff Jungels, another Edina forward, and Minnetonka forward and Denver commit Bobby Brink. Both players have totaled four goals and 10 points thus far.

Five of the top seven scorers in the Team North lineup hail from Duluth schools, with four coming from Duluth East and one a member of Duluth Marshall. The Greyhound trio of Garrett Worth, Ricky Lyle and Ryder Donovan lead the team in points, with Worth and Lyle sitting at 11 and Donovan coming in at 10 points, respectively.

Eden Prairie’s Jack Jensen tops the scoring leaders for Team Southeast, with goaltender Ben Garrity providing exceptional netminding. Garrity, of Rosemount, is tied for the league-lead in goaltending wins with four, and has posted a record of 4-1-0. The other goalie with four wins is Southwest’s Jackson Hjelle, who suits up for Delano.

A pair of power forwards - Wayzata’s Griffin Ness and Elk River’s Jack Perbix - have carried the scoring load for Team Northwest, guiding their team to fourth place.

Ness is tied for tops in the league with eight goals with the aforementioned Jack Jensen of Team Southeast, while Perbix is tied for second with 10 assists, the same total as Team Southwest’s Walker.
