Alexandria, Farmington Win Consolation Finals

The 2016-2017 version of the Girls’ State High School Hockey Tournament featured some of the usual suspects in the third-place games in both classes, with Class A’s Warroad and Class AA’s Hill-Murray making repeat appearances in Saturday’s early session at the Xcel Energy Center.

Warroad earned its second straight third-place trophy with a 6-2 win over Northfield on Saturday morning in the Class A tilt, with junior forward Madison Oelkers leading the way with a hat trick.

Senior Danika Huerd sophomore Kaitlyn Kotlowski and eighth-grader C.J. Lanctot each tallied one goal for the Warriors (21-7-3).

Northfield (18-10-2) got goals from seniors Sarah Stowe and Olivia Keske.

In her final game in an Eden Prairie hockey jersey, senior forward and Ms. Hockey finalist Naomi Rogge made a strong case to win the award.

Rogge scored two goals and added two assists as the Eagles (21-7-2) flew past the Pioneers 6-0 in Class AA.

An innocent 1-0 lead after the first period for the Eagles turned into an insurmountable 4-0 advantage, with Rogge netting her second and Crystalyn Hengler and Sydney Langseth scoring once each.

Sydney Henrichs and Emily McLaughlin added goals in the third period for the Eagles.

For the Pioneers (24-6-1), the lone bright spot was junior goaltender Ava Bailey, who finished with 31 saves in the loss.
