Minnesota Duluth Upends Providence, Then Falls to Boston College

The Bulldogs’ season ended in the second round on Saturday night, as Boston College snuck past UMD 3-2. The Bulldogs (19-16-5) came achingly close to tying the Eagles late in the final 7:11 of the third period, with Austin Farley and Karson Kuhlman scoring to pull the Bulldogs within one at 3-2. Teddy Doherty scored twice for the Eagles, and Ryan Fitzgerald added a power play goal in the third period for Boston College.

In the first round, the Bulldogs edged No. 4 overall seed Providence 2-1 in double overtime. Tony Cameranesi scored early in the third period to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead, which was erased four minutes later by the Friars’ Steven McParland.

Kuhlman scored the game-winner for the Bulldogs at the 57-second mark of the second overtime, assisted by Willie Raskob and Cameranesi.

St. Cloud State Upset by Ferris State in Tourney Opener

Rated as the tournament’s No. 2 overall seed, the Huskies (31-9-0) were upset in the first round 5-4 in overtime by Ferris State.

Ferris State took a 2-1 lead after the first period, getting goals from Mitch Maloney and Jared Vanwormer. Jacob Benson scored for the Huskies.

Kenny Babinski and Gerald Mayhew scored for the Bulldogs in the second, with St. Cloud State’s Mikey Eyssimont keeping the Huskies close at 4-2.

Eyssimont scored again early in the third, and Joey Benik tied the game midway through the period to send the game to overtime, where Vanwormer ended the game 18 seconds into the extra session.
