St. Cloud State's Prow Among Top Ten Candidates for Hobey Baker Award

Voting For College Hockey's Top Player Starts Thursday

St. Cloud State senior defenseman and captain Ethan Prow has been named one of 10 candidates for the 2016 Hobey Baker Award, which honors the top player in college hockey each season.

Prow, a native of Sauk Rapids, Minn., leads all NCAA Division I defensemen with 27 assists and 35 points. Prow and Yale junior goaltender Alex Lyon (from Baudette, Minn.) are the two Hobey Baker Award candidates with Minnesota ties.

Other candidates include: JT Compher, Michigan, Kyle Connor, Michigan, Thatcher Demko, Boston College, Zac Lynch, Robert Morris, Tyler Motte, Michigan, Alex Petan, Michigan Tech, Andrew Poturalski, New Hampshire and Jimmy Vesey, Harvard.

The 60 Division I college hockey head coaches, along with online fan voting, determined the 10 candidates. The Hobey Baker Award Selection Committee and an additional round of fan balloting through from March 17-27 will determine the winner. The "Hobey Hat Trick" (three finalists) will be announced on March 31 and this year's award recipient will be announced on April 8 during the NCAA Frozen Four.

Criteria for the award include: displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.

Fans can begin voting for the Top 10 on Thursday, March 17. Fans can also track player votes by following Hobey Baker Award's page on Facebook.
